I have loved my time interning with Josie and working for Georgia 4-H and have many take-aways from this position. My first take-away is that clear communication and consistent branding is key. I have learned that other people rely on the work that I create, so it is important to establish a consistent brand and make it easy for others to stay on brand. This has proved to be extremely important in my position because much of the content I produced was used by 4-H agents and program specialists throughout the state. I have achieved this by utilizing the branding tools in Canva to make being consistent easy and accessible. Another key take-away is that it is important to work diligently and double check everything so you don’t have to pay for mistakes. During much of the magazine making process, I had the task of editing and checking for errors in the spelling and design of the document. This was an important task and passed through several people, and still the printer was able to find 2 misspelled words in the magazine, which could have been extremely costly. My supervisor, Josie Smith, has had an incredible impact on me in my professional development during my internship. She has led with positivity and grace, and created an inviting and creative work environment where I was unafraid to share ideas. This has shown me how to lead in the professional world, and I want to model my leadership in future rolls on her positivity. Another key take-away from this internship is my love for layout and design work. I have learned that I really enjoy working with Adobe InDesign to create magazine and pamphlet layouts. It allows me to combine aspects of photography, writing, and digital design to share stories and create interesting designs. I want to continue learning and improving on these skills in my future. I am planning on giving thanks to the people in my department by getting Christmas gifts for everyone. I will miss this internship!
