Over the course of this internship, I have realized that there are many key issues relevant to Georgia 4-H and their public perception. One of the key issues that people care about with Georgia 4-H is the impact it is having on the youth of tomorrow, and the staff at the state office want to highlight this impact in as many ways as possible. One of the most significant ways Georgia 4-H addresses this is the annual magazine Georgia 4-H Cloverleaf. This magazine highlights stories of outstanding 4-H’ers and volunteers from throughout the program year. This was a major project for me during the time of my internship. I was responsible for inserting names and updating layouts throughout the document on Adobe InDesign. This was a challenge for me because I had to learn how to do several new things with in the program, but I was able to learn new skills and further develop my graphic design skills. Another way Georgia 4-H addresses the public’s concern with 4-H programming is through social media posts. Across social media, Georgia 4-H wants to highlight the impact on 4-H’ers and their involvement in various programs. They do this by posting photos and videos of 4-H’ers at events. Most recently, I helped edit a video on Adobe Premiere Pro to be posted on instagram and facebook showcasing some of the best footage we have collected throughout the year. Another key concern of Georgia 4-H is financial transparency and fundraising. Georgia 4-H relies heavily on public funding to continue to improve programming across the state, and they do this by several fundraisers throughout the year. One of the most important, in terms of communication, is 4 Dollars for 4-H Day, which occurs every April 4th. This fundraising push calls people to make donations of $4 or more to their local 4-H program. Throughout the day, Georgia 4-H creates graphics and social media posts to update the public on the status of fundraising. I have had to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to edit the map of the state of Georgia to match fundraising progress.
