The main project that I am working on, starting this week, has been helping to create Georgia 4-H’s annual magazine, the Cloverleaf. For this project, I have many tedious duties such as inputting the correct district and state officers' photos and information, inputting all the project achievement and special event winners throughout the year, and writing stories highlighting specific events and award winners. These projects are tedious, but extremely fun and engaging for me. I love sifting through the records to find the information I need and putting them into the InDesign template. Along with this, I have learned to really enjoy working in InDesign because it gives me creative freedom to design and create layouts. This has pushed me to expand the way I see traditional media and really study how magazine layouts are created. Our project has just started in the past several days, but it will have to be a relatively quick turnaround to have it completed, seeing as we try to send it to the printer by early November so that it can be distributed early in the new year. With my existing knowledge of the communication field, I feel like I have a nuanced perspective because I am still learning about the ways to best effectively communicate while also trying new things and pushing design and communication efforts forward. I have had the opportunity to design many posters and materials, and I take my own preferences and design ideas into them and try to create something engaging and new that remains on brand. However, because I am still learning the ins and outs of Adobe programs, I have had several instances where I need to search for a tutorial or ask my supervisor for assistance. This is one hindrance to my knowledge of the communication field, that I am still actively learning new things each day.
