Last week, I started my internship with Josie Smith, the PR coordinator for Georgia 4-H. Georgia 4-H is a positive youth extension program run through the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UGA. The orginzation is present in every extension office in the state, and each local office looks to the state office for directions in programming and promotions. I have grown up very involved in this program, and I am excited for this opportunity to learn more about how communications and public relations are handled in the organization. The Georgia 4-H state office is located on the third floor of the Hoke Smith Annex building on the south campus, right next to Stegman Colliseum. This is a great spot to work because I can access the building from campus, and it's right next to the football practice fields, so I often get to hear Kirby Smart coaching the players at work. My official position is the PR Coordinator, Student Worker/Intern. With this job, I have many responsibilities such as: editing and creating promotional videos in Adobe Premiere Pro, creating designs and layouts for county materials in Canva, and writing stories and creating magazine designs in Adobe InDesign. Each year, Georgia 4-H publishes a magazine highlighting programs and stories from throughout the year, and this will be a major project while I am working this semester. I am really looking forward to working on this because I will get to write and design pages on my own, which I love to do. This allows me to express my creative freedom and share stories about an organization I really care about. However, I am slightly concerned about how my designs will look in relation to the Georgia 4-H brand and how I can express myself while staying on brand. This will be a challenge that I am looking forward to facing as I get more into the design and creation elements of this job.
